The Magicians of the Century have dedicated their lives to preserving these rare animals, the real "Titans of Las Vegas." With only a few dozen Snow White Tigers in the world, the breed is rarer even than the panda. Siegfried & Roy's efforts have brought the species back from the brink of total extinction. After securing the offspring of a perfectly matched pair of these beautiful animals bequested to this country in 1958 by the Maharaja of Rewa, Siegfried & Roy, in conjunction with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, established their own White Tiger breeding line. Unlike conventional tigers, which have black and gold markings, the White Tiger is white with black or dark brown stripes, pink paws and ice blue eyes. The purest of the species are snow white and have no stripes. The White Tiger Habitat, located inside the Mirage's moving walkway entrance from Las Vegas Boulevard, is open daily from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. The habitat has numerous features to enhance the comfort of the animals and provide spectacular viewing for guests. The open-air environment features a swimming pool with fountains and simulated mountain terrain for the tigers' enjoyment and the publics' entertainment. The facility's white setting gives the animals a sense of security by allowing them blend into the background and special slanted glass affords better viewing, eliminates glare, and helps control the temperature. The Royal White Tigers are rotated continuously in and out of the facility throughout the day. When not in the Habitat, they enjoy their own spacious living environment and periodic excursions into the countryside. |
Siegfried & Roy have created an open-air home for white tigers, enabling the public to share the conservation work of the renowned illusionists in preserving the endangered species. The multi-million dollar environment is the first permanent showcase for the exotic animals since they were spotted 200 years ago at the foot of the Himalayas.
