Emmy Award-winning writer and actor Carl Reiner lends his comedic talent and voice to the character of Sarmoti on NBC’s new animated comedy series "Father of the Pride." Embodying Reiner’s classic wit, Sarmoti, the legendary headlining white lion of the "Siegfried & Roy" show, never misses an opportunity to argue with his son-in-law over such issues as Larry’s (voiced by John Goodman) disregard for the old Rat Pack-era values.

Possibly best known for his work on "The Dick Van Dyke Show," Reiner, who was born in the Bronx, is the son of a watchmaker. At Evander Childs High School, his primary interest was baseball, but at age 16, he took a job as a machinist’s helper in the millinery trade and simultaneously enrolled in drama school for eight months—landing a part as a second tenor in the chorus of an updated version of "The Merry Widow."

Reiner subsequently served in World War II, first training as a radio operator in the Air Force, followed by an assignment to Georgetown University to study French in order to become an interpreter. He then was a teletype operator in the Signal Corps and later became a comedian and actor with Maurice Evans’ Special Services Entertainment Unit. He toured the Pacific for 18 months in G.I. revues.
